SENSELESS THINGS - Keele University - 4th Mar 1995

This one was a memorable show if a little bizarre...  I remember getting to Keele and not even being able to find any sign that a show was even happening.  I believe we eventually found our way into the student union bar and eventually found the room where the gig was.  We got their early because I remember that we saw Minxus (although I remember nothing more about them) and AC Acoustics who I had heard of and were pretty good.  Even by the time the Senseless things came onstage I think I remember that the crowd was still tiny and we pretty much had free reign on the front barrier.  I remember the Senseless Things set was full of energy ( I only knew one song though...) and a good night was had by all.

SLEEPER - Stoke Wheatsheaf - 22nd Feb 1995

Back at the Wheatsheaf once again to see Sleeper - not exactly in line with our metal tastes but their catchy indie-pop tunes made them very likable.  I went to this one with Deano (I remember I went straight from a WH Smith work night out at the Bowling in Hanley!) and the place was packed.  Nyack were the support.

HEADSWIM - Stoke Wheatsheaf - 16th Feb 1995

We were back in Stoke two weeks after the Kyuss gig for a show by Headswim. Unlike the Kyuss show, the venue was far from full but it was still up there for atmosphere when the show started. No idea who came to this show with me! I think support came fom Joyrider.

Shows with my Dad after 1993

Over the years after I got into going to see live music I still went along with my Dad to several of his concerts - not always my taste but I was always happy to go along and spend some time with Dad in his element.

One of my Dad's favourites is guitarist Albert Lee and we went to see Albert Lee and Hogans Heros play at the Leek Arts Festival on May 19th 1994 at a venue called Olivers.

KYUSS - Stoke Wheatsheaf - 2nd February 1995

We went to see Kyuss without ever hearing a song but just based on the reputation of their live shows from the reviews we saw in Kerrang.  Not sure who came with me to this one but I remember that we got drinks in a pub over the road before the show before heading into the Wheatsheaf and headbanging for 90 minutes of pure noise.  The tiny Wheatsheaf venue was packed and we were stood right by the stage (no security here!).  What an awesome show and I was a Kyuss fan for life.  I was blown away.  My aftershow memory is that we got some stuff flyers signed by the drummer and we all vowed to be back at the Wheatsheaf a few days later for the Headswim show.

The Wheatsheaf closed as a music venue and was turned into a Wetherspoons pub.
When it was a venue, you would enter through those doors on the right of the photo...
